Volunteer Chore Program provides volunteers to help the elderly (60 and over) and adults with functional disabilities remain independent in their own homes. Volunteers help with tasks such as: • housekeeping • grocery shopping • laundry • yard work • transportation to doctor appointments (if clients are unable to use public transportation) • minor household repairs • mail reading/bill paying assistance The Volunteer Chore Program serves as a safety net, helping those for whom other resources are unavailable. Chore assists 200+ Whatcom County residents each year. It costs approximately $500 per year per client to run the program; it costs approximately $55,000 per year for someone to live in assisted living. To qualify for Volunteer Chore Program services, seniors and adults with disabilities must be: • Low-income • Isolated and do not have family and friends as resources • Referred by a doctor, case manager, counselor, social worker Please contact VCP for paperwork: (360) 734-5121 ext. 172
